Description: Come celebrate the 259th anniversary of Virginias oldest chartered town: Historic Dumfries, Virginia! Mark your calendar for Saturday, May 10! This family-friendly and free event includes live entertainment throughout the day, displays and demonstrations of historic items, historical re-enactments, vendors, and plenty of food! The fun starts at 11:00 am at Merchant Park in Dumfries and our key-note speaker and presentation begins at 3:00 pm. Town and county dignitaries will be present. The event concludes at 4:00 pm. Historic Dumfries, Virginia, Inc and the Town of Dumfries are excited to announce their annual Charter Day celebration! Honoring the 260th year as the oldest chartered town in Virginia, this free and family-friendly celebration promises to be more exciting than ever, with continual live entertainment and performances, a living history event, games and contests, vendors and crafters, and historical demonstrations. “I’m most looking forward to the performances, with everything from the Victorian Singers to the Bull Run Cloggers and jazz performances, I’ll be kept entertained throughout the day” says Angela Havey of Montclair.

Low-cost hot dogs and lemonade satisfy the crowd’s hunger and thirst, in addition to other food items for purchase, and booths from Prince William County’s many public service organizations provide needed information. “I love bringing my grandkids to the town celebration! We have fun, learn something about our history, and you can’t beat the price of the hot dogs and lemonade on a sunny spring day!” says Anita Skidmore of Dale City. Claudia Smith of Historic Dumfries agrees. “I’ve lived in Dumfries my whole life. This is always a wonderful event, with people from all ages enjoying celebrating the community and our history.” Held at beautiful Merchant Park on the corner of Cameron and Duke Streets in Dumfries, the public is invited to share in the fun outdoor festivities!

The event takes place Saturday, May 9, at Merchant Park in Dumfries,
11:00 am - 4:00 pm, with formal ceremonies at 3:00 pm.
