The eagerly anticipated 2017 Gardens at Lake Merritt Autumn Lights Festival will be Thursday October 19 thru Saturday October 21! The Festival is a unique Oakland tradition, a three-night art and light event held in the darkened magical gardens. It's a community gathering held within the seven acres of the Gardens at Lake Merritt in Lakeside Park. The Festival is a fundraiser for these beautiful, free public gardens, which are truly the "Green Heart of Oakland." Local artists create gigantic and small works of art using light, like this amazing installation from 2016 by Imaginary Photon. Above, our Bonsai Garden is lit by hundreds of glowing lanterns.

The Autumn Lights Festival organizers are calling for artist submissions to be featured at the 2017 event. Submissions will be juried by a panel of local artists, and community leaders. Due to the limitation of installation space in the gardens, all works submitted will be considered, but not all will be accepted.
